Hey guys. I already posted an article about the Saraswati River yesterday. It is pretty long and it's pretty good. I spent quite a bit of time researching about the topic and spent some effort in that article. But today, I've decided to post an article about Mahaperiyava himself. I thought, "Since this blog's title is called Mahaperiyava Satsangam, I should post an article about Mahaperiyava." My third translation is still under way and I've gotten most of it done. I'm estimating that I'll be posting it around next week. With that said, I'll be happy to introduce the article, "Mahaperiyava Knows Everything..."
Mahaperiyava, also known as the Sage of Kanchi or Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Mahaswamigal, is widely considered by many as one of the greatest Indian sages of recent times. Some people classify him as beyond Godly. The experiences that people have had with this holy saint are far more than just flattering and outstanding. He is the 68th Jagadguru of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. He was remarkably renowned for his saintly life, adherence to Sanyansam, and his unprecedented expertise in a vast column of subjects. His talents are limitless according to other people who have had experience being near or with him. There have been many people interviewed for their treasured stories with HH Mahaperiya. Among these limitless stories, one recent interview conveys how Mahaperiyava knew everything.
One day a family traveled to Kancheepuram to get the Darshan (blessing) of Sri Mahaperiyava. Along with them, they took one of their family friends who had been living in the USA for some decades. The friend didn't express interest in the Hindu religion and its system. He went along with the family lukewarm and detached in encountering Mahaperiyava. His perception was that Mahaperiyava was a fundamentalist and an uneducated monk. This NRI (non-resident India) had no great respect for him at all. He started to question and interrogated about his knowledge about anything happening in the world, especially if Mahaperiyava even knew English.
As they reached the Madam gathered with people, the family was standing at a decent distance from him. As usual, Mahaperiyava greeted them with his graceful eyes and called all of them near him. As usual, Mahaperiyava started his enquiries about the family's names, places, jobs, etc.
Then Mahaperiyava turned his head towards the NRI friend and asked, "You are born in India, and you know Tamil; your wife was also born in India and should know the mother tongue. When you two converse, is it in Tamil or English?"
The friend replied, "We never use Tamil at home, we use English only. The same goes with the kids also. Even our thought process runs in English only."
Minutes after, an old lady entered the Madam to have Mahaperiyava's Darshan. Mahaperiyava looked at the NRI person and said, "This old lady is now very poor, but once upon a time she was very rich. But even after she lost all the materialistic wealth, her devotion towards Sri Madam, Acharya, and me has never changed even a bit. Could you please tell me the English word which describes this unflinching devotion, which cannot be changed by external situations? I would like to know."
The man remained spellbound. He thought and thought for a while but could not come up with the ideal word.
Mahaperiya smiled and said, "Can I suggest one word? Could you please confirm whether the same can convey this meaning? EQUIPOISED."
The man was fascinated and immediately fell at Mahaperiyava's feet to forgive him for his ego.
From this experience, we can see the powerful aura created by entering Mahaperiyava's Madam. This also taught that man a lesson. Never question the capacity of knowledge of Mahaperiyava. Mahaperiyava knows everything that's happening and there are many experiences that prove this statement. This story is very inspiring and it will always be because no mortal can recreate the brilliance as well as the spirituality that Mahaperiyava had. No matter who questions him for his greatness His Holiness Mahaperiyava will always be underrated for his greatness.
